The latest battle between the oldest rivals in international cricket has gone the way of the Americans, with Timroy Allen starring in a five wicket win over their neighbours to the north.

Putting Canada in to bat after winning the toss, the USA's first bowler was former West Indies international Adam Sanford. This was his first List A Twenty20 match, and he was joined in the West Indies side by fellow former West Indian international Neil McGarrell.

Sanford took two wickets, as did Elmore Hutchinson, but it was McGarrell who bowled the best, going for just 18 runs from his four overs, taking one wicket in the process as Canada scored 137-6 from their 20 overs, Jimmy Hansra top scoring with 39 from 34 balls.

The USA looked to be well out of the running at one point, with their run rate being too slow. When Timroy Allen came to the crease, they'd scored just 61 in 11 overs.

But Allen wasted little time, and he showed just why US cricket followers were disappointed by his breif retirement earlier this year. He hit an unbeaten fifty from 31 balls, before Srini Santhanam hit the penultimate ball of the match for four to secure a five wicket win for the Americans.

Canada will look to bounce back tomorrow when they take on group favourites Ireland, whilst the USA will be full of confidence as they take on Italy.
