Kenya captain Collins Obuya believes the key to success as the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013 (WT20Q) is to keep it simple and focus on each game as it comes. The 32-year-old leg-spinning all-rounder says the side has a good blend of players ahead of this month's event, which will be played across six venues in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 15 to 30 November.

Obuya, perhaps most well-known for his performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2003 when he picked up 13 wickets at 28.76, including five for 24 in the side's victory over Sri Lanka in Nairobi in the one-day format of the game, said ahead of the ICC WT20Q 2013: "The preparation for the qualifier has been very good, as we have been playing with Sri Lanka A in Sri Lanka, and using our time there to adjust to slow pitches. It's definitely been very good for the team.

"Every game that we play will be important to us and every team we face will play differently. We will just try to keep it simple and concentrate on our own game in order to qualify for Bangladesh in 2014."

Obuya, who has represented Kenya in 102 ODIs and 22 Twenty20 Internationals, felt the side was well suited to the Twenty20 format and was looking forward to welcoming back veterans Steve Tikolo and Thomas Odoyo to the side.

"I think with the talent we have in our team and how our players like to express themselves, the Twenty20 format is really suited to the Kenyan team. It's always good to have Steve Tikolo and Thomas Odoyo in the team because they bring a lot of experience and confidence to the side, and the younger guys can learn from them," said Obuya.

Should Kenya qualify out of Group B, where it is placed with Afghanistan, The Netherlands, Scotland, Bermuda, Denmark, Nepal and Papua New Guinea (PNG), and ultimately advance to the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014, it would mean a lot for the game in Kenya, says the captain. The side finished eighth in the last Qualifier, held in 2012.

"It would mean a huge amount to Kenyan cricket if the side qualified as it would give the team more exposure to the game at the highest level and attract more fans and sponsors for the side, which can only be a good thing."

Kenya begins its ICC World Twenty20 2014 qualifying campaign on 15 November against PNG at the ICC Academy Oval 2.
