The Netherlands captain Peter Borren is confident that his side has what it takes to qualify for the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 (WT20). Borren's side will compete with fifteen other teams for six qualification sports in the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013 (WT20Q), which takes place from 15 to 30 November.

"We are desperate to qualify. Since beating England at Lords in the 2009 edition of the ICC World Twenty20 we have twice failed to qualify. That hurts. We are keen to not only qualify for Bangladesh, but to win games once we get there," said Borren.

The side has been preparing for the event in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a training camp in South Africa. "We had two weeks' rest at the end of the northern hemisphere season, which was followed by a month of skills work indoors in The Netherlands.

"We have now embarked on an intensive preparation tour to Pretoria, South Africa. This two week period has incorporated both match fixtures and a lot of fitness work with a real focus toward the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers."

The side features some familiar faces, including the likes of Daan van Bunge, but also new players in the form of youngster Ben Cooper, and it will be hoping to improve on it fourth-place finish at the last event.

"We are missing some key players who have represented us in recent times due to unavailability. Naturally we will miss their talent, however, it is also an opportunity for other guys to step up. I have noticed a real unity in the group of recent times and I am sure that will be evident in the qualifiers," said Borren.

Another face that will be missing for the ICC WT20Q UAE 2013 will be that of former Dutch coach, Peter Drinnen, who has been replaced by Anton Roux.

Borren commented on the departure of Drinnen, "Peter Drinnen contributed enormously during his six years with the national squad. He has left a team which is far more professional in its approach to the game. I am sure that Anton Roux is excited about the coming challenges and I am confident that he will add value."

The Netherlands will appear in Group B of the WT20Q, a pool that will offer many challenges, in the form of Afghanistan, Scotland, Kenya, Bermuda, Denmark, Nepal and Papua New Guinea.

Borren said of the group: "I would expect the WCL Championship teams to be confident of progressing in this group. That certainly doesn't mean we will be complacent at any stage. We are well aware of the danger the other teams pose.

"There will definitely be ‘upsets' in this tournament, which is a measure of both the quality of all the participating teams as well as the nature of the Twenty20 format.

"I think the Twenty20 format is something that is well suited to the Dutch style of playing cricket. We have dangerous players whose various skills will complement each other and suit the requirements of Twenty20 cricket."

The Netherlands begin its campaign on 15 November against Afghanistan in Sharjah.
