Michael English and Ross McLean have both scored thirties to help lead Scotland to a win over Ireland and qualify for the Under 19 World Cup in the UAE next year.
The Scottish bowlers did the initial damage though, with Scotland bowling tightly throughout the Irish innings. Scotland opened with a spinner, a surprise tactic that seemed to throw Ireland off their game in the early part of their innings, as they struggled to score at a decent rate.
The opening partnership put on 38 before the first wicket fell in the 13th over, and the low scoring rate continued as the Scottish bowlers put a stranglehold on the Irish innings. Mark Watt took the first four wickets to fall, and bowled his spell straight through to finish with 4-20.
At one point an eleven over period saw Ireland score just 21 and lose four wickets in the process as they looked all at sea against the Scottish attack. They never recovered from that spell and were bowled out for 127, Hill taking 3-23.
Scotland then had to negotiate one of those tricky pre-lunch sessions, which they did, scoring 29 from their first 11 overs. The first over after lunch was another story though as Campbell bowled a double wicket maiden, giving Scotland a real scare.
Ireland kept the pressure on in the field, but Scotland kept managing to find the gaps, with Michael English batting well to score 35 and Ross McLean top scoring with 36. It was Zander Muir who hit the winnings runs, guiding the ball down to the third man boundary to take his score to 23 and secure the five wicket win for Scotland.
