Argentina beat Bahrain by 3 wickets in a tight, low-scoring encounter at FB Fields.
Having won the toss and electing to bat, Bahrain made 166 all out in 42.1 overs. Muhammad Hanif top-scored with 74 and he was well supported by Shahzad Siddique, who made 36. Lucas Paterlini and Gary Savage were the pick of the Argentinian bowlers, returning figures of 3-34 and 3-41 respectively.
In reply, Argentina's batsmen shared the runs around as they secured a narrow victory with 5 balls remaining, Pablo Ferguson (37), Alejandro Ferguson (37) and Martin Siri (35) the key contributors and Paterlini hitting vital runs down the order to see his side home.
Argentina's captain Esteban Macdermott said, ‘I think we did extremely well with the ball and we kept them to an achievable target. I think the pressure and the nerves of seeing victory so close played against us but ultimately we got over the line and we're very happy about that.'
At Les Quennevais, Nigeria beat Vanuatu by 6 runs in another close encounter. Having been put into bat, Nigeria made 230 all out in 49.2 overs, Adekunle Adegbola (44) and Segun Olayinka (34) the top-scorers.
Captain Andrew Mansale led the way in Vanuatu's run chase, making 58, and Kalworai made an unbeaten 57, but it wasn't enough as Oluseye Olympio's 3-41 helped Nigeria to a slender victory.
Vanuatu's manager Mark Stafford said, ‘We played quite well today but we let ourselves down in some critical areas. It was a gutsy performance from us to get so close with our batting but I think we let Nigeria get 30 runs too many in the field.'
