Guernsey came back strongly from the disappointment of their defeat by Italy on Thursday afternoon, a fine performance with the ball paving the way for their comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Gibraltar.

Skipper James Nussbaumer led the way, having David Coram caught behind by Kimber off the fourth ball of the match before a run had been scored, and his four overs cost a miserly six runs. Guernsey only took five wickets, but a combination of accurate bowling and excellent fielding enabled them to restrict Gibraltar to a total of just 116.

Kayron Stagno (23), Kieron Ferrary (29), Iain Latin (28) and Mark Bacarese (24) all batted steadily, but none of them was able to take the Guernsey attack apart.

Jeremy Frith, the most prolific batsman of the tournament so far, could only manage six this time before falling to Kabir Mirpuri, but Lucas Barker and Isaac Damarell put on 61 for the second wicket, Matthew Hunter eventually removing Damarell for a 20-ball 32.

Barker and GH Smit saw their side home, however, the former finishing on an unbeaten 51 as Guernsey completed their win in just 14.2 overs.

The contest between Norway and Austria, on the other hand, went all the way, with Austria also recovering from their morning defeat to secure a 6-wicket victory with just four balls to spare.

Norway once again got off to a promising start, Ansar Iqbal (36) and Santosh Rathakrishnarajah (31) putting on an opening stand of 62, and with Saleem Ali making 24 and Safir Hayat 21 the Norwegian total of 177 for eight was a reasonably challenging one. Imran Goraya and Imran Asif claimed two wickets apiece.

Austria responded with a century opening stand between Imran Asif (49 from 40 balls) and Lakmal Kasthuriarachchige (50 from 30 deliveries) which was compiled at ten runs an over, but once Norwegian skipper Shahbaz Butt removed both openers and Babar Nadeem, it seemed for a time as if the Austrians might lose their way.

At 122 for four they were momentarily in real trouble, but then Imran Goraya joined skipper Amar Naeem, and these two added 58 runs in an unbroken fifth-wicket stand, Naeem making a 23-ball 38 and Goraya a 14-ball 29 and each batsman hitting three vital sixes. Butt finished with three for 30, but in the end his side had to concede defeat.
