Given that some were tipping Nepal for relegation after they lost their first two games, it makes their win in the final all the more remarkable. It is thoroughly deserved though. Going back a few years, Nepal were the South Africa of associate cricket - always losing in those important must win games. The Nepal of 2008 would probably have been relegated. But not the Nepal of 2013.

After Uganda won the toss and elected to bat first at the National Stadium in Hamilton, Nepal bowled superbly, restricting the Ugandans to just 151-8 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Nepal did lose some early wickets and were 30-3 in the 11th over, but recovered with a 77 run partnership for the fourth wicket between Pradeep Airee and Sharad Vesawkar. That partnership ended when Airee was dismissed for 60, but Vesawkar stayed in to make an unbeaten 50 and guide his team to a five wicket win.

In the third place play-off, the USA got the result they needed on Saturday, but just one day too late. Batting first after winning the toss, the backbone of the USA innings was provided by a 156 run partnership for the third wicket between Steven Taylor and Orlando Baker.

Taylor was out for 97, just short of a second century in the tournament, whilst Baker went on to score 72 before he was out. The USA went on to score 271-7 from their 50 overs and Dion Stovell was the pick of the bowlers with 4-38.

In reply, Bermuda got close to the USA, but were losing wickets regularly throughout their innings. David Hemp top scored with 45 and Muhammad Ghous was the pick of the bowlers with 4-43 as Bermuda scored 241, losing by 30 runs.

In the fifth place play-off, Oman beat Italy by five wickets thanks to 64 from Zeeshan Siddiqui.

The next World Cricket League tournament will be the Division Six event in Jersey at the end of July.
