Vanuatu have made it three wins from three games at Division 7 of the World Cricket League in Botswana after beating regional rivals Fiji at the BCA Oval main ground today.
Batting first after winning the toss, Fiji struggled with the bat, only three of their line up reaching double figures. Jikoi Kida top scored with 38, and his dismissal was part of a collapse that saw them go from 79-2 to 88-7. They eventually scored 139.
The target was no problem for Vanuatu, and they reached it in 21.5 overs to win by six wickets. Trevor Langa led the way with 64 from 51 balls.
Next door on the BCA Oval secondary ground, Dotun Olatunji once again starred for Nigeria, scoring a second consecutive century in their total of 287-7 from their 50 overs. His unbeaten 125 came from 95 balls. Nabil Master was the pick of the Botswana bowlers with 4-42.
In reply, Faisal Rasheed scored 32 from 25 balls as an opener for the hosts, but that was the only bright spot on the Botswana card as they were bowled out for 116 to lose by 171 runs. Joshua Ogunlola was the pick of the Nigerian bowlers with 5-28.
Over at the Lobatse Cricket Ground, Germany batted first after being put in by Ghana. Andre Leslie, promoted up the order, scored 66, but no other batsman really managed to get a start and Germany were restricted to 185-8 from their 50 overs.
Ghana had little trouble in reply, and they scored the runs quickly, reaching their target in 32.3 overs to win by four wickets. Obed Harvey top scored with 52.
Tomorrow, Vanuatu will play Nigeria, knowing that a win will guarantee them promotion to Division Six. Germany will hope to record their first win when they play hosts Botswana, whilst Fiji will play Ghana.
