The latest stop on the road to the 2015 World Cup got underway in Kuala Lumpur today, with Denmark, the USA and Nepal all recording wins.

Hosts Malaysia, promoted from Division Five, took on the originally scheduled hosts USA at the Bayuemas Oval, where captain Suhan Alagaratnam won the toss and put the Americans in to bat.

That decision soon proved to be the wrong move when opening pair Sushil Nadkarni and Steven Taylor put on 110 for the opening wicket before Taylor was out for 62, which brought captain Steve Massiah, returning to the team after missing the World Twenty20 Qualifier due to legal difficulties, to the crease.

He and Nadkarni put on another 47 before Nadkarni was out hit wicket for 73. Massiah then shared in a 70 run partnership for the third wicket with Timroy Allen before he was dismissed for 33. Allen stayed in until the end of the innings, smashing 72 from just 43 balls to take the USA total to 289-5 from their 50 overs.

The Malaysian reply got off to a poor start with both openers dismissed with just nine runs on the board, and it never really recovered from there. Suharril Fetri scored a steady 60, whilst Nik Arifin scored 37 from 27 balls, but that was a case of too little too late and Malaysia could only manage 219-8 from their 50 overs, losing by 70 runs.

Singapore, the other team promoted from the Division Five tournament they hosted earlier this year, got off to a poor start against Nepal when the top three were all caught behind off the bowling of Amrit Bhattari, quickly reducing them to 21-3.

Bhattari also took the fourth wicket to fall and finished with figures of 4-28 from nine overs, Basanta Regmi also bowling well with 3-30 as Singapore were bowled out for just 111, Anish Param's 31 the only respectable mark on their scorecard.

As is often the case, Nepal's inconsistent - to put it mildly - batting order managed to make a hash of what should have been a simple chase, losing their first four wickets for just 29, Amjad Mahboob taking three of those wickets.

They did manage to recover though, Pradeep Airee scoring an unbeaten 34 from 25 balls to take them to a five wicket win.

Denmark, relegated from Division Three in Hong Kong last year, played Tanzania at the Kinrara Academy Oval. Carsten Pedersen top scored for them with 48 and Aftab Ahmed scored 43 from 31 balls to help take the total to 224 before they lost the last wicket from the final delivery of the innings. Kassim Nassoro was the pick of the Tanzanian bowlers with 4-40 from his ten overs.

In reply, Tanzania scored slowly and were restricted to 136-7 from their 50 overs, losing by 88 runs. Pick of the Danish bowlers was the 46 year old Lejf Slebsager with 3-24 in his first game for Denmark since the 2001 ICC Trophy in Canada.

Tomorrow's matches will see Malaysia take on their old rivals Singapore, the USA play Denmark and Nepal play Tanzania.
