Scotland U19s took on Zimbabwe in the Plate-Final Championship after the completion of their Group B fixtures, the battle was on to claim ninth place.

After Scotland's defeat against Afghanistan, the team looked to bounce back against third place finishers in Group C, Zimbabwe, who had previously beaten Papua New Guinea in the tournament.

Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to field first, with Ross McLean (7) and Matthew Cross (20) opening the batting for Scotland, taking them to 36 runs before both were dismissed in the seventh and eighth over respectively.

Freddie Coleman was one of the next batters in and he reached 17 before being bowled by Luke Jongwe. Peter Ross and Nick Farrar then produced an exceptional fourth-wicket partnership worth 101 in 21.5 overs taking the Scots to 166-4 and giving them a solid foundation to build their innings on.

Farrar took 73 balls to reach a well-deserved half – century, while his partner Peter Ross made 43 before being caught behind by Nyasha Mayavo to give Jongwe his second wicket of the day.

This meant that with 10 overs remaining that Henry Edwards (26), Ruaidrhri Smith (13) and Aman Bailwal (30) could all play with freedom, to take Scotland's final total to 241/7.

In the Zimbabwe reply, Sadler and Smith had dismissed both openers before the fifth over, before Atish Chouhan and Matthew Bently put on 48 to move Zimbabwe to 60/2. Burl held the innings together with 50 before until he was caught by Gavin Main to give Smith his second wicket of the day with the score on 151with 12 overs remaining.

The other Zimbabwe batters made double figures, but two wickets for Aman Bailwal and Main kept the batsmen in check to ensure Scotland claimed a convincing victory, by 41 runs.

Following the match coach Craig Wright said, "It was a good solid performance from us today it was good to get a win and put a few aspects we have been looking to improve on right.

Nick and Pete batted nicely and allowed the guys coming in to take a few more risks with their shots - our lower-order has been something we have been working on, it was pleasing that they managed to all contribute today.

We bowled some good stuff and had them behind the run-rate for most of their innings, we managed to capitalise on any chances that came our way, and in the end we came out on-top."

This was Scotland's first victory over a Full Member at age-group level, complimenting the Scotland national team's victory over Bangladesh earlier in the season.

Scotland will now take on fellow Group B opponents, Afghanistan in the Plate Championship Semi-Final (21 August) and are guaranteed two more matches in the 2012 ICC U19 World Cup before returning home.
