The ICC has confirmed the Event Technical Committee (ETC) of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2012 has approved Tim Murtagh to replace the injured Alex Cusack in the Ireland squad.

The confirmation was conveyed to the Ireland squad on behalf of the committee today (22 March).

Cusack suffered a torn hamstring during Ireland's 17 runs victory over Scotland on 18 March at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS).

Any injury or illness-based replacement requires a written submission to the ETC along with a diagnosis from a medical practitioner as to the extent of the injury or illness. Once replaced, a player may not return to the squad save as an approved subsequent replacement for another injured or ill player.

Murtagh, who recently qualified to play for Ireland and is as yet uncapped for the country, is 30-year-old right-arm fast bowler and left-handed batsman he replaces the 31-year-old Cusack who is right-arm medium-fast bowler.

As with all players in the tournament, the eligibility of a replacement player is subject to approval by the ICC before that player can be officially added to the squad.

The ETC of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2012 in this case was made up of Tim Anderson (Chair – ICC Global Development Manager), Edward Fitzgibbon (ICC Development Events Manager), David Jukes (ICC Match Referee), Mazhar Khan (Emirates Cricket Board Representative) Richard Done (ICC High Performance Manager – ICC Representative).
