Cayman Islands were relegated following WCL Division 4 in Bologna in 2010 and coach Theo Cuffy is keen to rectify the relegation with promotion from WCL Div. 5 in Singapore back into Division 4.
Cuffy began preparing his side back in September with a focus on getting the side physically fit ahead of the tournament in Singapore.
"Preparation began in September of 2011 with a focus on physical fitness for the side. Programmes were designed for each person with checks after specific periods of time.
"The ICC Americas Region High Performance Officer Andy Pick endorsed our training programme and visited on two occasions, first in November and then at the beginning of February. We've also prepared with a series of practice matches on the weekends which began back in January 2012," said Cuffy of the side's preparation.
Cuffy believes the side is different to the one from 2010: "The unit better understands the purpose of representing our country than it did back when we travelled to Italy in 2010. They have trained very hard and are definitely fitter physically and mentally."
"We have a good combined unit, so it is hard to single out individual players, however Steve Gordon, Pearson Best and Ryan Bovell are our senior players while Ramon Sealy, Marlon Bryan and Kervin Ebanks are the youngsters waiting to make their mark," added Cuffy with regards to players to watch in the Cayman Islands' squad.
One side Cayman Islands has been particularly successful against in the past is Argentina but that's not to say Cuffy believes they will be a walkover: "Argentina has had success against us regionally and internationally and is no way a push over. All the teams will be tough in Singapore, we are not going to under-estimate any team, we are however quietly confident of our abilities."
The humidity may prove a bonus for Cayman Islanders with the climate being similar says Cuffy: "Our country is usually very hot and humid, although the situation and conditions vary from country to country we are hoping that our preparations will provide us in good stead."
