ANOTHER last over finish for Ireland Under 19s but this time it was only because they could not bowl out Vanuatu at Coleraine.

The result was never in doubt after the World Cup qualifying tournament hosts posted 313 for nine but it was the minnows from the south Pacific who were just as pleased at the finish as they batted all 50 overs for the first time in five matches to finish on 148 for nine.

The game was over as a contest once Donemana's Andy McBrine and captain George Dockrell put on 137 for the third wicket, with the former finishing 107 not out, from 104 balls with 12 fours.

Dockrell, still batting at No 4, made a run-a-ball 69, also with 12 boundaries, as Ireland enjoyed valuable batting practice against the only team yet to win a match in the tournament.

Ireland reshuffled their vulnerable top order with Jason van der Merwe moving up to open but neither he nor Hugh MacDonnell could reach 40 and in the rush for runs after Dockrell's dismissal at the start of the 45th over, Vanuata helped themselves to five easy wickets at a cost of just 44 runs, one of them Ryan Hunter, down at No 5, for just 10.

With Andy McBrine taking two wickets the man of the match was a formality but the feature of the Irish bowling was the first appearance in the tournament of Shane Getkate who eased himself back with three overs off 10 paces and in the one over of his second spell he took two wickets.

The win promotes Ireland to second place, just behind Scotland on run rate, the only other team with four wins from five games.

Scores: Ireland U19s 313-9 (A McBrine 107 not out, G Dockrell 69, J van der Merwe 37, H MacDonnell 26) Vanuatu U19s 148-9 (N Nipiko 62; S Getkate 2-9, G Dockrell 2-16, G McCarter 2-21, A McBrine 2-37) Ireland U19s won by 165 runs.
