Andy McBrine was to the fore with an unbeaten 107 as the Under 19s racked up 313-9 against Vanuatu - the highest total in this World Cup qualifying tournament. McBrine was clearly happy to be home in the north-west, where the tournament has moved after a week of action in Dublin.

The Donemana all-rounder is son of local legend Junior who won 35 Irish caps - and scored his only century for Ireland on this same ground. The 18-year-old made his 107 in 104 balls yesterday, with 12 fours.

Ireland's opening stands had previously given concern, totalling 8, 0, 3 and 2 so far. Coach Jeremy Bray kept faith with his batters but reorganised the order. He was rewarded with the best start by far - Hugh McDonnell (26) and Jason Van Der Merwe (37) putting on 80 to give a solid foundation.

Skipper George Dockrell also made his best score of 69 off 70 balls.

The Vanuatuans - the only team without a win to date - were no match for the fiery Graeme McCarter who blew away both openers for 11.

Nalin Nipiko battled to 63, before he became the first of two wickets in an over for Shane Getkate. McBrine and Dockrell also struck twice to ensure a comfortable 167 run win which keeps Ireland top alongside Scotland.

Thursday is a rest day, when Trent Johnston joins the party as bowling coach before Friday's game at Limavady.
