There may have been little at stake in terms of qualification or ICC World Cricket League Division Eight play-off places at stake in today's match at Farmers Field between Norway and France, but Norway were nevertheless hoping to secure a win to give them some cheer after the tragic events back home.

And they put in one of their best bowling displays of the tournament when France batted, keeping it straight and rarely allowing France to get the ball away.

France were scoring too slowly throughout their innings, and only two of their batsmen managed to make double figures. The introduction of Zaheer Ashiq in the 16th over was to prove their undoing, as in nine balls he took four wickets for just two runs, bowling France out for just 70.

Norway's innings started badly, and they were 8-3 in the sixth over. The third wicket falling saw Zeeshan Ali come to the crease, and he soon doubled Norway's total with fours from the second and third ball he faced.

Norway then adopted a tactic of trying to just keep the scoreboard ticking over, and this they succeeded in doing. Mofassar Saeed was trapped lbw by Usman Khan, who also took three catches, with the score on 36-4, and Norway didn't lose another wicket from that point forward.

Zeeshan Ali eventually began to cut loose a little, and hit a four and a six from the first two balls of the 17th over. Three balls later, a leg bye gave Norway the victory and fifth place.

After the game, both teams departed to FB Fields to watch the final, with the Norwegians going to cheer on their fellow Scandinavians from Denmark.
