Germany smashed the biggest score of the tournament so far as they won their ninth place play-off semi-final by 90 runs against Croatia.
Winning the toss and batting first, Germany made 222-7 in 20 overs. Captain Asif Khan (56) and Dilshan Rajudeen (44) set the platform for the big total, putting on 79 for the second wicket as they both found the short boundaries at Victoria College with ease.
Rajudeen in particular played some classy shots, the pick being a clean strike that sailed over straight midwicket for 6. And it took a moment of magic to dismiss the German opener, Michael Grzinic diving to his right to take a superb catch at deep square leg off the bowling of Paul Vujnovich.
Khan went on to get his 50 in a mere 23 balls, including six 4s and two 6s, but then perished in the 12th over, well caught at long-off attempting to hit slow left-armer Craig Sinovitch for a maximum.
Cameos from the German middle and lower order then kept up the momentum, Imran Chaudhry (24), Kashif Haider (37*) and Kashif Mahmood (39) all hitting the ball sweetly to lead their team to a total of 222-7 in 20 overs.
In reply Croatia never really got going, slumping to 28-2 in 5 overs. Nikola Davidovich then made a valiant 47 from 30 balls, including three 4s and three 6s, but his side could only finish on 132-8 in 20 overs, handing Germany a comfortable win.
Germany will now return to Victoria College for their ninth place play-off against Gibraltar tomorrow, whilst Croatia will play Israel in the eleventh place play-off at Les Quennevais.
