IRELAND WOMEN PREPARE FOR WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS,BANGLADESH.
Following the recent ICC quadrangular tournament in Sri Lanka, Ireland senior Women continue their preparations for the forthcoming WCQ in Bangladesh in November which will be led by Isobel Joyce who takes on the captaincy role following the recent decision by Ciara Metcalfe to step down.
With a packed summer schedule ahead, including a new SUPER 3's tournament (replacing the old interpros), a number of new players have been brought through the ranks to join the senior squad; notably Julie van der Flier (14 years old) who shows intent with ball and bat and Elena Tice (both from Merrion) who, at only 13 years old, shows real promise for the future.
As part of the continuous development, Shauna Kavanagh (Pembroke) has taken two seven wicket hauls in recent weeks demonstrating that hard work really does yield results.
Kim Garth (Pembroke) has continued to impress with 5 catches in an International against Sri Lanka, and Rebecca Rolfe has forced her way into the squad and backed that up with strong batting performances in recent ECB County Championships matches.
In addition to the local leagues, cups and men's domestic leagues, the senior women also compete in the ECB County Championships and are working hard to get promoted out of their current division to take on stronger competition in 2012.
