The Netherlands turned in a superb all round performance to comprehensively defeat Guernsey by 111 runs at Carrickfergus.
In a contest reduced to 30 overs by both overnight rain and early morning drizzle, The Netherlands made light of being asked to bat in what looked like testing conditions.
Any early nerves were soon settled by an opening stand of 69 in just 45 balls between Vinoo Tewarie and Sverre Loggers. The latter was the dominant partner scoring 41 from 35 balls (5 fours, 1 six).
Tewarie then took on the mantle making a magnificent 71 from just 73 deliveries (1 four, 4 sixes). The innings was given some late impetus by a whirlwind 38 from just 16 balls by Emile van dern Burg, who smashed 4 sixes and a four in a brutal assault, which allowed the Netherlands to score an imposing 210 for 6 in their 30 overs.
Best with the ball for Guernsey was Dane Mullen (2-28), with Andrew Hutchinson, Adam Martel, Glenn Le Tissier and Ben Fitchet the other wicket takers.
In reply Adam Martel scored a run a ball 20, but apart from some late resistance from Andrew Hutchinson (23*), the Guernsey batsmen were unable to cope with a fiery and varied Dutch bowling attack.
The unorthodox Philip van den Brandeler proved a real handful with his pace and movement, and had the excellent analysis of 4 wickets for 5 runs in his six over spell.
Vinoo Tewarie completed an excellent all round game, as he claimed 3 for 13 with his spin, as Guernsey finished on 99 all out in 28.2 overs.
The other wicket takers for The Netherlands were Sebastian Braat (1-19) and James Gruijters (1-23).
The Netherlands now face Jersey at Stormont, while Guernsey meet the hosts Ireland in a must win clash for both teams.
