Israel have beaten Gibraltar by 30 runs thanks to a record breaking and match winning innings from Eshkol Solomon at College Field in Guernsey today.

Israel won the toss and chose to bat on a warm and sunny day. They got off to a good start with a 44 run partnership between Josh Evans and Shailesh Bangera, but once that partnership was broken, wickets began to fall regularly.

But despite the wickets falling, Solomon remained unbeaten. He played a fantastic innings, including some audacious reverse sweeps, and when he reached his century became only the second Israeli centurion, the first since David Moss scored 108 against Fiji in the 1986 ICC Trophy.

He carried on batting, passing Moss's record for the highest individual score, to finish on 120 from 116 balls when he was bowled with two deliveries remaining. He helped Israel recover from a perilous 102-7 to score exactly 200. Iain Latin was the pick of the bowlers with 4-43.

That target should have been chaseable for Gibraltar, but they started badly when they lost their first two wickets with just one run on the board. Opener Vikram Khatwani attempted to play an anchor role, scoring a resolute 22 from 110 balls, but nobody wanted to score the runs at the other end.

Richard Buzaglo attempted to provide some impetus with a 37 ball innings of 30 and Kabir Mirpuri hit a 54 ball 45, by which time it was too late. Josh Evans, Israel's young leg-spinner, bowled excellently to take 4-21, as Gibraltar were restricted to 170-9, giving Israel a 30 run win.

After the match ICC Europe Regional Development Manager Richard Holdsworth presented Eshkol Solomon with the match ball as a souvineer of his record breaking innings.

Israel will play Germany on the last day of the tournament on Monday, whilst Gibraltar will play France. Despite their win today, Israel are now out of the reckoning for the final place in Division Eight of the World Cricket League, with France and Germany still in the running.
