At the KGV Ground in Guernsey today, the hosts got their campaign off to the perfect start with a 141 run win over Gibraltar.

Guernsey captain Stuart Le Prevost won the toss and chose to bat first. After a first over in which Gibraltar opening bowler Chris Phillips was clearly struggling, he went off injured, and Karan Sadhwani removed Ross Kneller from the first ball of the second over.

But the expeirenced pairing of Lee Savident and Jeremy Frith led the way with a 100 run partnership before Frith was run out in unfortunate fashion - the ball deflecting off Kabir Mirpuri's hand onto the stumps with Frith out of his ground - having scored 51. When Tim Ravenscroft was bowled by Mirpuri later in the same over, the wheels briefly threatened to come off the Guernsey innings.

But Savident was still in, and he was joined by his captain to put on 86 for the fourth wicket before he was out for a well made 91. Le Prevost then helped accelerate the scoring rate, joined by Tom Kimber who smashed 42 from just 28 balls. The pair put on an unbroken 75 for the fifth wicket, with Le Prevost scoring 68.

Kabir Mirpuri was the pick of the Gibraltar bowlers with 2-42 as Guernsey scored 264-4 from their 50 overs.

There was a brief rain shower during the Gibraltar reply, sending the players back to the pavillion for about 15 minutes. By this time, Gibraltar were struggling in their reply thanks to some tight Guernsey bowling. Jonathan Warr bowled fantastically, going for just nine runs from his ten overs, including six maidens.

After he'd used up his quota, Gibraltar attempted to accelerate the scoring rate with a knock of 33, but by then it was too late. Andew Hutchinson, Jeremy Frith and Tim Ravenscroft all took two wickets each as Gibraltar were bowled out for 123, the last wicket coming when Chris Watkins was stumped from a wide.

Guernsey will play Israel tomorrow, whilst Gibraltar will look to get their campaign back on track with a match against Germany.
