The Netherlands have lost a chance to close in on a Super Eight place after a middle order collapse against Bangladesh today in St Vincent as the Men's T20 World Cup continued.
Bangladesh lost Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das cheaply at the start of their innings, but Tanzid Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan added 48 for the third wicket to provide a platform for the Bangladeshis. Hasan fell for 35, but Hasan batted for the rest of the innings to score an unbeaten 64 from 46 balls, helping his team post 159-5.
The Dutch started their run chase behind the required rate, with only 22 on the board when Michael Levitt fell for 18 in the fifth over. Max O'Dowd was out for 12 in the next over, with Vikramjit Singh contributing 26 from 16 balls including three big sixes before he was out in the tenth over.
Sybrand Engelbrecht and Scott Edwards added 42 for the fourth wicket in five overs as the Netherlands looked to be getting set to chase down their target, but a flurry of wickets then came as the Netherlands lost four of them for six runs in three overs.
That was it as far as the Dutch challenge went and they fell short on 134-8, losing by 25 runs. They are still in with a chance at making the Super 8 stage on net run rate though if they can win their next match on Sunday night against Sri Lanka - who were eliminated thanks to today's result - and if Bangladesh lose to Nepal at the same time. They will also need Nepal to lose to South Africa, otherwise Nepal will progress instead.
