Alan Johnson has taken over the captaincy mantle once again and as usual there is plenty of activity going on, both on and off the field.

The Rectory pitches are always among the best in the region, and with the square and outfield extended, plus more improvements, it continues to impress.

Those improvements have also carried over into the playing personnel, with Trevor Britton, Graham Robb and Ryan Nolan all coming in.

In addition they have replaced South African professional Gihahn Cloete with Sri Lankan Malinga Amarasinghe.

“With Ted and Graham coming into the set-up, it’s going to be invaluable for the younger guys to be able to pick their brains,” said skipper Alan Johnson. “It’s given everyone a real boost.

“ Ryan Nolan is very talented, and he’s been in and around the Irish youth set-up. We also have our own Leland McElwee and Jake Montgomery who have been involved with the Junior Warriors over the winter and that will be invaluable to them and the club.

“With the weight of captaincy off Big Ben Mills, I think we will see just how good a player he is – we did glimpses of that last year. Keep an eye too on Manav Chabbha, an Australian who played a bit for us last year and will be available all this season.

“We have Barry Scott coming in and running all the coaching this year, and we have had a really good pre-season. I’ll be supported by Ben and Ted who are sharing the vice-captaincy role, so no shortage of advice. As a club our main aim this year will be getting promotion from the Championship back into the Premiership, and we are all really looking forward to the new season.”
