IRELAND TO PLAY ENGLAND AND AUSTRALIA
Ireland veterans have lined up a mouthwatering itinerary for the season ahead that includes clashes with both England and Australia in Dublin.
In an expansion by the Veterans Cricket Association of Ireland, they will be playing at over-50 for the first time, following their successful debut season at over-40’s last summer.
Pembroke will host the historic maiden clash against England over-50’s next month on Friday May 24th.
Amongst the players confirmed for the Irish include former skippers Angus Dunlop and Justin Benson, as well as former international Ted Williamson. Others expected to be in the squad include Pakistan first-class cricketers Shahid Iqbal and Iftikhar Hussain, as well as South African Dan Van Zyl.
“We are extremely pleased to be hosting our inaugural over 50's fixture against 2023 World Cup winners England,” said manager Greg Molins.
“It should prove to be an exciting step to increasing the player base of over 50’s and we would welcome hearing from those who wish to be included in this and other fixtures we have lined up.
“We also would love more players in the over 40's category to get in touch too,” added the former international. “We are also looking for match day sponsors to help cover costs, so please do reach out to us should you wish to support the Veterans Cricket Association of Ireland.”
The over 50’s will also play Australia at Pembroke on June 17th in another attractive home game.
The over 40’s travel to Newport in a Home Nations quadrangular in Wales from July 31st to August 2nd.
They then face England at Merrion on August 22nd, having beaten them last year in their inaugural clash in London.
