Ireland suffered a 201-run hammering by favourites India in their final Group A match at the U19 World Cup but are still well placed to reach the Super Sixes second stage of the tournament.
Clontarf seamer John McNally claimed 2-43 before he was forced out of the attack for bowling two full tosses in the same over, while Olly Riley, of YMCA, returned figures of 3-55 as India racked up 301-7 from their 50 overs.
Ireland, who had been impressive in their opening games against the USA and Bangladesh, were unable to mount the semblance of a chase and after slipping to 45-8 it took a determined 27 not out from Merrion’s Daniel Farkin to lift them to 100 all out.
If Bangladesh beat the USA today Ireland will qualify for the Super Sixes - albeit with no points - where they will play Pakistan, New Zealand and either Nepal or Afghanistan.
