Bermuda have started their campaign for a first ever appearance at the Men's T20 World Cup in fine style on home turf with a first win over Canada in an official match in 15 years.
Bermuda were put into bat at White Hill Field and scored 181-9 from their 20 overs thanks to 83 from 43 balls by Kamau Leverock and 66 from 38 balls by captain Delray Rawlins. Kaleem Sana was the pick of the Canadian bowlers, taking 4-23.
Canada lost their first five wickets for only 27 runs and never recovered from that point on. Nikhil Dutta (27) and Saad Bin Zafar (26 not out) were the only batters to reach double figures and they were bowled out for 95, losing by 86 runs.
The second match of the day was a low scoring affair between Panama and Cayman Islands. Panama chose to bat first and were restricted to 85-8 from their 20 overs, Alessandro Morris taking 3-14.
The Caymans had little trouble chasing down their target, doing so in 14.3 overs to win by seven wickets. Patrick Heron top scored for them with an unbeaten 31.
The double round-robin tournament continues tomorrow at the same venue with Bermuda taking on Panama in the morning and Canada hoping to get back on track when they take on the Cayman Islands in the afternoon.
