The race to reach the quarter finals of the Asian Games alongside the region's five full members continued today in China with two more matches in the first round of the men's cricket tournament.

In the first match of the day, old rivals Malaysia and Singapore faced off, with Singapore winning the toss and putting Malaysia in to bat. Virandeep Singh top scored for them with an unbeaten 44, whilst Syed Aziz scored 39 at the top of the order. Their final total was 160-8 and Anish Param was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-16.

Only two batters were able to reach double figures in the Singapore reply as they were bowled out for 87, losing by 73 runs.

The second match of the day saw Mongolia play their second T20I after their thrashing at the hands of Nepal yesterday in their first. Put into bat they showed some improvement, batting out their overs against the Maldives and scoring 60-9, with Davaasuren Jamyansuren's 15 the only double digit score.

Maldives then chased down their target in 6.4 overs to win by nine wickets. For context, this is a second-string Maldives side as they are also playing in the Asian sub-regional qualifier in Qatar for next year's Men's T20 World Cup. They are the first team to play two T20Is in different countries on the same day.
