One of many pathway events for the next women's T20 World Cup played this past week, the Africa Division Two qualifier in Botswana concluded yesterday with Kenya beating Botswana in the final, though both teams progress to Division One.

Both teams qualified for the semi-finals from Group A, which also featured Malawi and Lesotho, whilst the semi-finalists from Group B were Sierra Leone and Cameroon. Mozambique and Eswatini were the other teams in that group.

Botswana beat Sierra Leone in the first semi-final, scoring 131-7, largely thanks to 51 extras (including 42 wides) conceded by their opponents, and restricting them to 114-5, winning by 17 runs.

Kenya scored 156-5 in their semi-final against Cameroon, Esther Wachira scoring 51, before bowling them out for just 38. Queentor Abel took five wickets for only five runs in the 118 run win.

With qualifcation already assured, there was still the matter of the final. Only one Botswana batter was able to reach double figures as they were bowled out for only 52. Flavia Odhiambo took 4-10 and Queentor Abel took 3-10. Kenya then chased down their target in 8.1 overs to win by 9 wickets.

Earlier, the third place play-off saw Cameroon kept to 68-6 from their 20 overs, a target which Sierra Leone knocked off in 9.5 overs to win by seven wickets.

Awaiting Botswana and Kenya in the Africa Division One tournament will be Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Uganda will be the hosts in December.
