Nepal's first Asia Cup campaign has come to an end as they crashed to a 10 wicket defeat at the hands of neighbours India in the first ever match between the two sides today in Sri Lanka.
Rohit Sharma and Rohit Paudel at the Toss (ACC)
After Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked Nepal to bat first, openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh showed some fight with a 65 run partnership, which ended when Bhurtel was caught behind having scored 38. Sheikh batted on until the 30th over before he was out, holding firm for a score of 58.
After a couple of rain delays, Sompal Kami give some impetus to the later overs of the Nepal innings by scoring 48 from 56 balls. The knock helped Nepal get very close to batting out their overs, but they lost their final wicket with ten balls still to come, having scored 230.
Rain came again early in the Indian reply, after 2.1 overs, and this time it was enough to reduce the overs. When play finally resumed, DLS adjusted India's target to 145 in 23 overs.
They achieved this without any trouble, not losing a wicket as they chased it down in 20.1 overs. Rohit Sharma top scored with 74 whilst Subman Gill contributed 67.
India now qualify for the Super Four stage along with Pakistan from this group. Group B is technically still up for grabs with any of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or Afghanistan set to join India and Pakistan in the next stage, depending on the result of tomorrow's Sri Lanka v Afghanistan contest.
Nepal have no more scheduled fixtures for the rest of the year, though there have been murmurs of a tour to Nepal by the West Indies next month.
