CIYMS will host Cork County in the All-Ireland T20 semi-final next Sunday after winning a bowl-out in the NCU T20 Cup final against Waringstown yesterday.

Tyron Koen was the only bowler to hit in the bowl-out after incessant rain prevented any chance of the final being played but although CI have the chance to go on and retain their All-Ireland title they have not won the NCU’s T20 Cup – yet.

The final will be played on a date to be confirmed – provisionally Sunday August 20 – back at The Lawn with the cup still up for grabs although, because the All-Ireland semi-finals have been arranged for next weekend, a ‘winner’ on the day was necessary.

The bowl-out took place in the centre of the square in pouring rain which went some way to explaining why only one of the nine bowlers hit the unguarded stumps.

A bowl-out will also be necessary tonight if the Gallagher Challenge Cup semi-final between Carrickfergus and Lisburn cannot take place at Middle Road.

Yesterday’s attempt to play the game only got to halfway with Lisburn finishing on 269 for seven after 45 overs, mainly thanks to another century from Faiz Fazal.

Carrickfergus, who took three and a half hours to bowl the overs, were obviously happy with the second chance which will be a 20 over-game, if the ground is playable. The winners will meet Waringstown in the final on Friday at Stormont.

There was a winner on the field at The Lawn yesterday with Muckamore beating Ballymena in the T20 Trophy final, which was completed before the rain arrived.

Despite a first wicket stand of 87 between Glen Adams and John Glass in just 11 overs, Ballymena could only total 148 for seven and with Ben Calitz hitting 56 not out, from 38 balls, with seven fours, Muckamore won by seven wickets with 11 balls to spare.

The other big winners at the weekend were Lurgan with their long-servants all playing a part in their convincing 76 runs (DLS) success over Bangor.

Stephen  Chambers finished 98 not out, after only hitting the final ball of the innings for four, and Stephen Johnston hit 88 in Lurgan’s 219 for seven in their 40 overs.

The Bangor innings was reduced to 33 overs with a victory target of 198 but 58-year-old Paul Stafford was one of four Lurgan bowlers to take two wickets as they were bowled out for 121.
