Jersey's introduction to official ODI cricket continued to be a baptism of fire as they came up against a rampant Namibian line-up today at Wanderers in Windhoek.
Jersey captain Chuggy Perchard chose to bat first after he won the toss, but Jersey were only able to score 213-9 from their 50 overs. Jonty Jenner top scored with 76 whilst Josh Lawrenson scored 42. The only other score of note was Julius Sumerauer's 28. Ben Shikongo and Ruben Trumpelmann both took three wickets for the hosts.
Namibia lost both openers early on in their run chase, but Jersey couldn't capitalise on that start as Michael van Lingen and Gerhard Erasmus cruised to the target with an unbroken 198 run partnership in 27.3 overs to secure an eight wicket win. Van Lingen scored 110 from 93 balls whilst Erasmus scored 88 from 87.
In the other game over at the United ground UAE also chose to bat first after winning the toss, and the top score in their innings was Asif Khan's unbeaten 103, his second ODI century after his first one two weeks ago. Vriitya Aravind also chipped in with 57 as UAE scored 279-9 from their 50 overs.
18 year old New Jersey native Sai Mukkamalla played a key role in the USA reply with an unbeaten 120 from 114 balls as they chased down their target with an over to spare, winning by 5 wickets. It was his maiden ODI century and only four players have scored an ODI century at a younger age.
Tomorrow is a rest day in Windhoek and when play resumes on Saturday, Canada take on the UAE whilst Jersey will look to get their campaign back on track when they come up against Papua New Guinea.
