Ireland’s Under 19s started their tour of South Africa on a winning note with a 113-run win over the Northern Titans Academy at Tuks Oval.

South African born Irish passport holder Jordan Neill made 32 in an opener’s slot for Pete Johnston and Albert van der Merwe’s side, hoping to make a name for himself ahead of the U19 World Cup next year.

Skipper Philippe Le Roux top-scored with 80 from 121 balls (3 fours, 1 six), sharing an unbroken 8th wicket stand of 81 in 11 overs with Finn Lutton.

The CSNI all-rounder hit four fours and cleared the ropes twice in a haard-hit 51 from just 45 balls as they made 243 for 7 in their 50 overs.

YMCA speedster Reuben Wilson claimed two wickets and the hosts were soon in trouble at 61 for 5.

They rallied briefly thanks to a sixth wicket stand of 51 between Jackson (36) and Balducci (26).

However, they were eventually dismissed for 130, with a wicket apiece for Ollie Riley, Finn Lutton, Scott Macbeth, Matthew Weldon, Jordan Neill and Harry Dyer, who also got one of the two run outs.

The sides meet again tomorrow, as Saturday’s wash-out has been rescheduled for Monday’s rest day.
