Jersey champions Farmers got Day 3 off to a flyer posting the week's highest total in the first match of the day. And their 160/3 proved to be just enough to claim the win against the French from Dreux. Patrick Gouge top scored for the islanders with 58* off 20 balls (4x4, 5x6) and Joel Dudley also traded in boundaries, scoring 39 off 14, made up of five fours, three sixes and a single!
Dreux had scored an impressive 158/5 against Sporting Alfas yesterday, with Ahmad Nabi hitting 93 off just 30 balls, but with him out to the Danish combination, ct. Hald b. Laegsgaard for only 9 today, it was going to be a big ask for the others to score 161.
Muhammad Rafah with 34 off 10 and Tabish Bhatti 31 off 13, each clearing the ropes four times kept Dreux in with a chance. But even with a high no-ball going for 6, and the free hit getting similar treatment Rhy Palmer's final over was still good enough to ensure the 12 run victory. Jack de Gruchy's 3-8 off his single over, probably the difference between the sides in an exciting contest.
CIYMS struggled against Hornchurch in the first of their two games of the day, with only Jason van der Merwe able to get on top of some steady bowling from the Essex side. His 42 runs off 13 balls were all scored in boundaries (3x4, 5x6) with Adeel Malik (2-12) and Marc Whitlock (2-18) the pick of the Hornchurch bowlers as CI totalled 109/8.
George Harkness blasted six sixes and three fours in his 63 which saw Hornchurch reach 96/4 at the end of the ninth over and left them requiring 14 off the final 6 Allen Coulter deliveries. But as he has done already this week, Coulter delivered, taking a wicket and conceding only 3 singles, meaning his figures for the day were 2 overs, 2 wickets for 5 runs, as CI ran out winners by 10 runs.
In the all Spanish clash Sporting Alfas posted 116/6 against Pak-I-Care thanks to Jack Perman's 24 ball 50 and 29(ret.) off 13 from Daniel Doyle-Calle.
Pak-I-Care started well putting on 59 for the first wicket, Muhammad Ihsan contributing 33 of those before a 3 wickets for 9 runs burst from Garry Park rocked them back. They needed 22 off the final two overs, but got them in just one, bowled by Garry Park of all people, who finished with 3-31 as Sikanndar Ali went 4.6.4.6 to finish the game and be 31* off just 9 balls and claim a 5 wicket win in a game that quite literally, swung back and forth.
Winless Beveren against unbeaten CIYMS was a one-sided affair, on paper at least! But it turned into a bit of a struggle before CI got home by six wickets with 8 balls to spare.
Beveren posted 107/6 with Abdul Rashid scoring 43* and Carson McCullough taking 2-15.
In the chase CIYMS got their usual fast start, and when they lost Jason van der Merwe for 26 off 12, Chris Dougherty took up the charge, rushing to 51 off just 20 balls. When he was out, McCullough and Matchett followed in quick succession, and it was left to 'Wild Card' Ben Calitz, who will be playing at Muckamore this season, to flick a couple of boundaries, ending 26* off 14, the 6 wicket win achieved courtesy of a Wide.
Five wins out of Five for CI and Four defeats out of Four for Beveren as CI again found a way to win when in just a spot of trouble.
George Hankins registered his second half-century of the day, again clearing the ropes six times, as Hornchurch posted 108 against Sporting Alfas, for whom Jake Sunderland, Greg Smith and Darren Walker each claimed two wickets. In the Sporting Alfas chase only Garry Park made a significant contribution, and his 42* was not enough to get them across the line, with Gavin Griffiths and Harry Hankins each taking 3 wickets. Hornchurch could even afford the luxury of a final over from George Hankins, whose two overs cost 34 as they ended up 15 run winners.
The final game of the night started in spectacular fashion, as Beveren's Noor Momand hit the first four deliveries from Muhammad Babar into the long grass and steered the sixth for a boundary. The first three overs produced 55 runs with Babar conceding 42 of those, as he was amazingly given a second over! But when Momand was out for a 15 ball 47 the brakes were applied as Atif Muhammad bowled his two overs taking 2-8, and Asad Rabbani his, taking 3-12, despite have his first ball cut high over the cover boundary. In the end Beveren managed to get to 99 for the loss of 7 wickets.
Opening the chase with Daniel Doyle-Calle, Muhammad Babar managed some sort of revenge as he smashed 30 off 10 deliveries. But it was Doyle-Calle who showed his class with 55* off just 23 balls (6x4, 4x6) to see Pak-I-Care home by 9 wickets at 102/1 in just 6.5 overs.
