Carrick sign Michael Rippon as replacement pro

Carrickfergus has announced the signing of Otago, New Zealand, and former Netherlands all-rounder Michael Rippon, as their overseas professional player/coach for the 2023 season.

This follows the withdrawal of South African Dayyaan Galiem, who has suffered a serious knee injury.

Originally form South Africa, 31 year-old Rippon made his debut for Western Province and Cape Cobras in 2011, and also had two seasons with Sussex in 2012 and 2013.

He made his international debut for the Netherlands in 2013, and went on to play for them in nine ODI’s and 18 T20I’s. 

He moved to New Zealand in 2016 and has played for Otago in domestic competitions since then. He made three appearances for New Zealand A versus India A, and has played one T20I for his adopted country against Scotland.

Rippon is a middle-order batsman and bowls left-arm wrist spin. He has scored 2165 first class runs @ 27.75, and taken 126 wickets @ 35.43, and in List A cricket has scored 2249 runs @ 34.60, and taken 132 wickets @ 28.14.
