A stunning all-round performance saw Ireland crush an abject West Indies team by nine wickets to seal a deserved place in the Super 12s.

Two-times tournament winners West Indies were restricted to 146 for 5 by the Irish, with Gareth Delany the pick of the attack, claiming three wickets for just 16 runs to clinch a deserved Man-of-the-Match award.

Barry McCarthy bounced back from his mauling on Wednesday, getting the opening breakthrough with the wicket of Kyle Mayers, and together with Josh Little and Mark Adair helped keep Phil Simmons' side well in check.

Curtis Campher (0-28 in 2) showed how the format switches fortunes from one game to the next, but Simi Singh was excellent, accounting for the belligerent Johnson Charles on his way to taking 1 for 11 in two overs, and almost claiming a second with a valiant attempt at a caught and bowled.

Only Brandon King with an unbeaten 62 from 48 balls (7 fours, 1 six) showed the application necessary, but an out of sorts batting effort failed to fire just when they needed to.

Credit to that goes to the bowling unit who stuck to their task well, backed up by an almost faultless display in the field.

A target of 147 was definitely under-par on an excellent track, but with so much at stake there was a fear pressure could play a part.

Those fears were quickly allayed with a stunning opening stand between skipper Andy Balbirnie and Paul Stirling.

The top four had been in poor form but came good when it mattered most.

Stirling was back to his best and he and Balbirnie all but settled the contest with a brilliant opening stand of 73 in 7.3 overs.

Balbirnie hit 3 sixes and 3 fours in his 37 from 23 balls, and despite his dismissal there was no easing up from Ireland as they continued to score at will against a toothless attack.

Lorcan Tucker joined Stirling and there was no further alarms as they eased to a comprehensive win with 15 balls left.

Tucker crunched the winning boundary to finish unbeaten on 45 from 36 balls (2 fours, 2 sixes), while Stirling undefeated 66 from 48 deliveries included 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Ireland will in all likelihood finish second in the group which would mean an opening Super 12 match against Sri Lanka on Sunday. If they do finish top, then it will be a clash with South Africa the following day.
