Jersey Cricket has confirmed BDO in Jersey as the new title sponsors for the ‘BDO My Club My Journey’ junior initiative. This partnership will assist specifically with the development and growth of both under 11 and under 13 club cricket.
The ‘BDO My Club My Journey’ programme was formed in 2020 to ensure young players have a clear path into domestic club cricket in Jersey. Since its inception in 2017, 61 cricketers have successfully made the step into the local leagues.
Previously named the ‘Junior Super League’, which started with just 58 players across 4 teams at the Under 13 age group, the programme has since grown to over 220 players across 14 teams at both Unfder 11 and Under 13 age groups.
Junior teams from the four local Premier League clubs, as well as Chirpy’s CC and Jersey Lionesses, make up the two leagues with weekly training sessions and bi-weekly age group fixtures on Sunday mornings from May-September.
The sessions and fixtures are led by qualified junior co-ordinators alongside club coaches and supported by Jersey Cricket staff to assist with session planning and coach development.
Jersey Cricket’s Performance and Development Manager Lee Meloy said ‘the BDO My Club My Journey’ programme is the youth development vehicle for ensuring club cricket thrives in Jersey for many years to come. The club representatives have worked tirelessly to ensure there are more opportunities for young cricketers than ever before.
‘Over the past 4 years we have seen consistent growth of playing numbers in junior cricket and we are starting to reap the rewards within the domestic senior leagues. We are thrilled to be working with BDO in Jersey to increase the opportunities and experiences for these young players, with this sponsorship forming part of an exciting growth strategy for our sport more widely, and complementing a principal Jersey Cricket sponsorship we hope to announce in the coming weeks.’
Matthew Corbin, Chief Executive Officer of BDO in Jersey said, ‘We are delighted to be sponsoring the ‘BDO My Club My Journey’ programme to help young Islanders realise their cricketing potential. We believe in supporting young people to succeed. Through this initiative we look forward to seeing these young players develop valuable life skills through team sport participation, at the same time supporting the continued growth of cricket in Jersey.’
