Finland hosted Sweden for a four match men’s T20I series this weekend and it was honours even after the fourth match concluded this afternoon at the Kerava National Cricket Ground.
Sweden won the toss and chose to bat first in the first game yesterday after rain reduced it to a 19 over contest, with captain Abhijit Venkatesh leading the way with a knock of 54 from 41 balls. They reached 135-6 from their 19 overs.
Venkatesh then led the way with the ball, taking 3-13 form three overs, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Finland, playing their first match in two years, winning by four wickets with seven balls to spare. Nathan Collins top scored for them with an unbeaten 64.
Sweden again elected to bat first in the second game, and this time it was Dipanjan Dey who top scored, making an unbeaten 75 from just 49 balls. Amjad Sher was the pick of the Finnish bowlers with 3-14 as Sweden scored 141-8 from their 20 overs.
In reply, Finland were on the back foot at 100-6 with five overs remaining. Amjad Sher swung the game back their way though, adding to his 3-14 by clubbing 37 from just 15 balls to help his team record a second four wicket win with seven balls to spare in as many games.
In the first game this morning, Sweden again won the toss but this time chose to put their opponents into bat. An innings of 56 by Aniketh Pusthay helped them reach 141-7 from their 20 overs. Rain reduced the Swedish reply to 15 overs, with the DLS adjusted target being 110.
Looking well on the back foot when they went from 50-2 to 51-5 in the ninth over, Sweden managed to recover thanks to Khalid Zahid hitting 47 from only 20 balls to help Sweden pull one back with a three wicket win with an over to spare.
In the final match this afternoon the hosts batted first and scored 145-7 from their 20 overs. Amjad Sher was their top scored with 34 from 19 balls whilst Liam Karlsson was the pick of the Swedish bowlers with 3-38.
In Sweden’s reply, a 15 ball innings of 37 by Rahel Khan and captain Abhijit Venkatesh clubbing 43 from just 24 balls helped them record a six wicket win with 2.5 overs remaining and square the series.
