Irish international Mary Waldron is currently umpiring in The Netherlands at the European T20 qualifying tournament.

It's the next step in the career development of Waldron, who has umpired in Australia, and recently was part of the officiating team in the List-A series between the A teams of Ireland and Bangladesh.

Waldron has been joined at the tournament by fellow Irish umpires Phil Thompson and Michael Foster from the NCU, while Kevin Gallagher is the tournament referee.

"It’s a great opportunity to umpire at this level and work with so many experienced umpires.," Waldron told CricketEurope.

"Our umpire mentor Alex Dowdalls has been a great support and it’s being very enjoyable working with him and the umpiring team.

"I’ve met and umpired with people from all over Europe and I’m very grateful to Cricket Ireland and the ICC for the opportunity.

"Being from a small cricketing nation it is great to see so many sides getting out there and starting their cricketing journey," added Waldron.

Mary has so far taken charge of matches in Group C featuring Gibraltar, Norway, Israel and the Czech Republic.

The 18-team tournament continues over the weekend with six teams progressing to the next stage of World Cup qualification for the 2020 competition in Australia.
