Vanuatu will likely need to win both their remaining games to avoid relegation after another defeat at WCL Division 4, this time to Uganda.

It all started well for the Pacific island nation as they bowled first after winning the toss and removed both openers cheaply leaving them on the back foot on 5-2. But Uganda fought back, first with Hamu Kayondo holding an end up with some patient batting.

He was eventually joined by Mohammed Irfan, and the pair took advantage of what looked to be a shortage of bowling options for Vanuatu, with Andrew Mansale keeping himself on despite being smashed to all parts. Mansale conceded nine sixes as he went for 78 from his nine overs.

Irfan was the chief destroyer, smashing 7 sixes as he scored 51 from just 17 balls. He and Kayondo put on 55 for the fifth wicket in just 4.2 overs. Kayondo scored a patient 44 from 105 balls, whilst Riazat Ali Shah scored 38 from 23 balls to help his team reach 222-8 from their 50 overs.

Vanuatu soon found themselves struggling when they lost their first four wickets for just two runs, three of the top four going for ducks. Skipper Andrew Mansale played a lone hand with 69, but his innings wasn't enough to prevent defeat as they were bowled out for 141 to lose by 81 runs.

Mohammed Irfan completed a fine all-round performance by taking 3-24 and was the obvious pick for man of the match, whilst Riazat Ali Shah also bowled well, taking 3-16 from his six overs.

Vanuatu will take on Bermuda tomorrow needing a win to avoid relegation straight back to Division Five. Uganda have a match against the currently unbeaten Denmark.
