Ben Stevens grabbed a four wicket haul as Jersey got their WCL campaign off to a winning start against Vanuatu.
The talismanic left-arm spinner was at his best in the sweltering conditions of Kualu Lumpur, dismissing the dangerous Patrick Matautaava (20) and then wrapping up that tail to claim 4 for 12 as Vanuatu were dismissed for 104.
42 year-old veteran Shane Deitz - who represented South Australia in a previous incarnation - showed he can play as well as coach as he top scored with a determined 36.
For Jersey skipper Charles (Chuggy) Perchard, Corne Bodenstein and Elliot Miles all picked up a brace of wickets.
Skipper Peter Gough went early in the chase - the first of three wickets for Jelany Chilia- but Nat Watkins anchored the innings with a solid undefeated 36 to ensure no collapses.
Ben Stevens (17) and Jonty Jenner (3) were the other wicket to fall, but former Leicestershire and Oxford/Cambridge graduate Nick Ferraby joined Watkins to close out the win.
Ferraby contributed 28 not out to their unbroken half century stand in 14 overs as the seven wicket win was achieved with 18.5 overs in hand.
The quick win will have been a relief for the Jersey squad, with the incredible heat and humidity proving stifling.
To get in three hours ahead of schedule could well be crucial in their energy conservation as the week goes on.
They are next in action on Monday when they face Demark in the all-European clash at Royal Selangor.
