Paul van Meekeren claimed a four-wicket haul as The Netherlands dominated Hong Kong in a one-sided contest in Harare.
Somerset seamer Van Meekeren looked back to his hostile best in afiery spell of 4 for 17 as the Dutch dismissed Hong Kong for just 157.
It could have been even worse for the Asian side where it not for the batting heroics of the in-form Babar Hayat. He ploughed a lonely furrow scoring 85 of his teams runs. Hayat struck 10 fours - four off successive Shane Snater deliveries - and cleared the ropes twice in his 96-ball knock.
He added 59 for the fourth wicket with Shahid Wasif (24) but when the latter was run out, the wheels came off their innings. Seven wickets fell for 57 with Pieter Seelaar (2-17) also showing a welcome return to form.
The Dutch opening partnership of Wesley Barresi and Max O'Dowd adopted a risk-free approach and they were fully vindicated in an stand of 84 which ensured the result was never in doubt.
Barresi top scored with 47, while O'Dowd made 45, before Ben Cooper's breezy unbeaten 40 from 43 balls (3 fours, 1 six) hurried The Netherlands to their emphatic victory.
“I'm really pleased with our performance today, especially from our fast bowlers," said Netherlands Head Coach Ryan Campbell afterwards.
"Paul van Meekeren is getting closer to his best after dealing with some back issues and Timm van der Gugten also is getting to where we want him.
"From a batting side of things we are trying to be more ruthless as well as seeing how our new opening combination is going.
"I’m very pleased with Wes Baressi’s form both here and in South Africa. Max O’Dowd has been given a great opportunity in the absence of Stephan Myburgh and as I’ve asked all of our youngsters, when given a chance you have to grab it."
Campbell is now looking forward to Thursday's final warm-up match against Afghanistan before the tournament opener with Ireland on Sunday.
"Afghanistan will be a great test for us in two days’ time and a great way to round off our preparations before taking on Ireland at the weekend.”
