Before today's game between England and Canada, the Americas qualifiers were talking up their chances, suggesting that their skill levels were equal and that an upset could be on the cards. However, Canada didn't even get close to an upset, crashing to a 282 run defeat.

Canadian captain Arslan Khan won the toss and opted to put England in to bat first. They started quickly, with Tom Banton and Liam Banks putting on 54 in 6.4 overs before Banton was the first man out having scored 27. Banks was then joined by Will Jacks, and the pair proceeded to take the game away from the Canadians.

The pair were able to put on 186 for the second wicket before Jacks was out for 102, scored from 82 balls. Banks reached 120 from 114 balls before he was the next man out. Wicketkeeper Jack Davies scored 57 from 36 balls in the middle order, helping England to reach a total of 383-7 from their 50 overs.

Canada capitulated in reply, with only five of their batsmen even able to make runs. Pranav Sharma top scored with 24 as they were bowled out for 101. Prem Sisodiya, playing his first match of the tournament, was the pick of the England bowlers with 3-23.

Canada's next match will be a plate quarter-final match against Papua New Guinea on Monday. England will have an extra day's rest before their quarter-final, a clash against old rivals Australia on Tuesday.
