It's not been a happy return to the Under-19 World Cup for Papua New Guinea, and their third match was no exception as they crashed to another heavy defeat, this time against close neighbours Australia.

PNG captain Vagi Karaho won the toss and chose to bat first, which initially looked like a good decision when Semo Kamea bowled Max Bryant for a duck in the second over. But the PNG side then had to watch as Nathan McSweeney and Jason Sangha (who scored a century against England in an Ashes warm-up) put on 250 for the third wicket, only the fourth 250+ partnership in Under-19 ODIs.

The partnership ended when McSweeney was dismissed for 156, with Australian captain Sangha being dismissed from the next ball for 88. Param Uppal scored 61 from 42 balls as Australia racked up 370-8 from their 50 overs.

Faced with such a challenging total, Papua New Guinea folded. Leke Morea's 20 was the only score in double figures as they were bowled out for 59. Jason Ralston took 7-15, the best bowling figures in Under-19 World Cup history, and the second best in all Under-19 ODIs.

Papua New Guinea's next match will be a plate quarter final match - likely against Canada - on Monday.
