Namibia - who did so well in reaching the quarter finals in 2016 - will definitely be unhappy with their performance in the 2018 tournament as they have gone winless from their three first round games and will now have to be content with playing in the plate competition.
Namibian captain Lohan Louwrens won the toss and chose to bat first at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval. They started well, with the opening pair of Louwrens and Jurgen Linde putting on 53. The rest of the upper order got starts but were unable to kick on with Louwrens' 38 the top score.
At 151-3 in the 34th over, they were well place to put in a competitive if not huge total. But from that point they contrived to collapse to 193 all out, with Akash Gill taking three of the last seven wicket to finish with figures of 4-43.
In reply Canada lost both openers cheaply, but recovered with captain Arslan Khan and Akash Gill putting on 110 for the third wicket. Gill completed a fine all-round performance with 53 before he was the third man out, whilst Khan reached 72, putting on 52 for the fourth wicket with Kevin Singh.
Singh then scored most of the remaining runs, finishing the innings unbeaten on 50 from 53 balls as Canada completed a four wicket win with eight overs to spare. With this being the only match in the first round between two associate sides, it was the first win by an associate in the 2018 tournament.
Canada still have a first round match to play, which will be against England on Saturday. Namibia's next match will be a plate quarter final on Monday when they will play the third place finishers in group B.
