Canada's Under-19 World Cup campaign kicked off with a defeat against a Bangladesh team that looks like they're ready to make a run at the title this time round.

Canadian captain Arslan Khan won the toss at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval and put his opponents into bat first. It initially looked to be a smart decision when Pinak Ghosh was out for a duck in the second over. Saif Hussain was also out for a low score, dismissed for 17 in the eighth over.

Bangladesh then started to build their innings however, with Mohammad Naim and Towhid Hridoy putting on 62 for the third wicket before Naim was out for 47. The runs kept coming fro Hridoy, first in a 111 run partnership for the fourth wicket with Atif Hossain who scored 50 before being bowled by Rishiv Joshi.

Still the runs came from Hridoy, who eventually fell from the final ball of the Bangladesh innings having scored 122 from 126 balls. His wicket was taken by Faisal Jamkhandi, who finished with 5-48 as Bangladesh scored 264-6 from their 50 overs.

Captain Arslan Khan was the top scorer in the Canadian reply with 63, with Pranav Sharma the only other batsman to get a decent start with 34. Both were dismissed by Atif Hossain who took 5-43 as Canada were bowled out for 198 to lose by 66 runs.

Both teams will play their next match on Thursday. Bangladesh will look to make it three wins from three when they play England, whilst Canada will take on Namibia.
