In a match between the two teams at the bottom of the World Cricket League Championship, Namibia have been thrashed by the UAE after a batting collapse in their innings.
UAE captain Rohan Mustafa won the toss and chose to put the home team in to bat at the Wanderers Cricket Club in Windhoek. Stephan Baard was trapped lbw for a duck in the first over, with Lohan Louwrens the second man out with the score on 22 in the seventh over.
A partnership of 46 between Louis van der Westhuizen and Craig Williams looked to be settling Namibia, but when van der Westhuizen was caught by Rohan Mustafa off his own bowling, it sparked a batting collapse. From 68-2, Namibia were bowled out for just 89. It was the UAE spinners who did the damage, with off-spinner Ahmed Raza taking 3-18, left-arm orthodox bowler Rohan Mustafa taking 2-17 and leg-spinner Imran Haider taking 3-27.
The UAE lost four wickets in reply but otherwise had no trouble chasing down their target to win by six wickets in 25.1 overs. The result confirmed Namibia's relegation back to WCL Division Two, and the two teams will meet again at the same venue on Saturday.
