In a day of contrasting weather Scotland Women were blown away by Ireland Women losing both fixtures in the Celtic Cup series.

Forthill was bathed in glorious sunshine as the toss for the first T20 took place.

It was testament to the ground staff that the game could start on time given the amount of rain that had fallen over the previous days.

Laura Delany won the toss for Ireland and elected to bat.

The Irish made their intentions clear attacking any delivery that was short or wayward with Clare Shiilington (pictured) finding the boundary with the first two deliveries of the day.

Scotland made their first breakthrough with the score on 15 when Kathryn Bryce had Mary Waldron trapped in front.

That was the only bright spot as Gaby Lewis joined Shillington and the pair put on a match winning partnership of 120.

Shillington eventually fell for 81 which had come from just 45 balls and her innings included 12 fours and one six.

She was well supported by Lewis who chipped in with 44.

Scotland did pick up a few wickets towards the end of the innings as Ireland looked to push the scoring on closing their innings on 166 for 4.

Scotland needed a good start if they were to chase down the Irish total and got off to a disastrous start as Ollie Rae was bowled for a duck in the first over.

The Bryce sisters Kathryn and Sarah looked to repair the damage which they did with a 66 run partnership.

However the introduction of Gaby Lewis into the attack saw both of them trapped in front and the Scotland innings lost momentum closing on 90 for 4.

Lewis finished with 3 for 4 from her three overs spell as Ireland ran out comfortable winners by 76 runs.

With rain threatening Abbi Aitken won the toss in game two and decided to bat first.

Scotland got off to a steady start against some disciplined Irish bowling taking the score to 37 before losing Ollie Rae for 20 in the eleventh over.

Scotland however were unable to break the shackles of the Irish attack closing once again on 90 with the loss of five wickets.

After a short delay for rain play resumed under a leaden sky.

Lewis and Shillington opened for the visitors but Lewis could not repeat her feats of the first match bowled by Kathryn Bryce for 1 in the second over.

Scotland had further success when Shauna Kavanagh was trapped in front by Priyanaz Chatterji to give Scotland a glimmer of hope as heavy rain fell.

A further five balls were possible during which Ireland scored sufficient runs to get ahead of the par score before play was suspended at the end of the fifth over.

No further play was possible giving Ireland their second win of the day this time by 7 runs under the DLS method.
