Daniel Birrell's five-wicket haul ensured Jersey finished the tournament on a high note after recording a 12-run win over Denmark at a sun drenched Farmers Field.

Batting first, Jersey adopted a safety-first approach with the bat, knowing a heavy loss could see the Danes leap-frog them in the battle to avoid relegation.

Oliver Hald and Jonas Henriksen took early wickets but a third wicket stand of 68 between Harry Carlyon (45) and Jonny Heward (29) took Jersey to 114 for 2 approaching the 30 over mark.

However, Abdullah Mahmood (4-24) sparked a collapse which saw Jersey lose six wickets for 20 runs to leave them tottering on 134 for 8.

Matthew Donaldson (36) and Hugo King (18*) staged a recovery, as they added 43 for the 9th wicket - Donaldson striking four of only seven boundaries in the innings.

A total of 185 gave the Jersey attack something to defend, and Birrell and Ed Giles took early advantage with the new ball to reduce Denmark to 45 for 4.

However half centuries from skipper Oliver Hald and Sandjeev looked to have won the game for their team as they added 108 for the 5th wicket.

Man-of-the-Match Hald struck 10 fours and cleared the ropes twice as he thumped 64 from just 54 deliveries, while Sandjeev made 61 from 77 balls (5 fours, 1 six).

Birrell then took centre stage as he ripped through the brittle Danish lower order, finishing with 5 for 35 as Demark lost six wickets for 19 runs to finish on 173 all out.

Ed Giles took 3 for 17, while the final wicket was taken by skipper Carlyon much to the delight of the sizeable home support.
