WESTERN Premier leaders Prestwick never looked back after making a bright start to their encounter with Poloc at the Henry Thow Oval.

Led by skipper Shahzad Rafiq’s hard-hitting 41, they posted 71-0 from the first ten overs before Fazal Jawad took up the attack with a purposeful 63.

While pegged back a little, the Ayrshire side went on to reach a substantial 245 thanks to a controlled 81 from Sachin Chaudary while Humza Sabri claimed four wickets for the visitors.

Having claimed the initiative with the bat, Prestwick did likewise with the ball courtesy of Gavin Pitt’s two early wickets.

That set the tone for wickets to fall at regular intervals and even a torrential downpour could not save the Shawholm side who were bundled out for just 80 to lose by 160 runs on DLS with Jurie Snyman stranded on 42no.

Champions Clydesdale’s hopes of a successful title defence are over after a rain-hit match at Titwood saw them fall six runs short of a revised target against Uddingston who had battled their way to a creditable 238.

Paul Hoffmann top-scored with 56 while Neil Martin, Ross Lyons and Hari Singh all made useful contributions in the face of some testing bowling, Hamid Mahmood returning 4-48.

Six runs was also the margin in another DLS outcome as Ayr kept their title hopes alive at te expense of Greenock at Cambusdoon.

Matthew Crawshaw upstaged prolific openers Michael Papps and Neil Smith to top-score with 75no as Ayr posted 237-9 before Greenock fell just short despite 55 from teenager Harry Briggs.

Second placed Ferguslie suffered frustration when their trip to East Kilbride was abandoned while only a few overs were possible in the match between Kelburne and Dumfries.
