It was dual success for the Irish Universities at Fenners - victory over their Scottish counterparts yesterday to retain the Celtic Cup and a 43 run victory over hosts Cambridge University to secure again the Hone-MacGregor Trophy.

As they did yesterday it was a case of bat first, post a total and defend it, and if that total wasn't in the same dizzy realms as yesterday it proved to be sufficient.

Runs from Will von Behr (58), Niall McGovern (38) and a better than a run-a-ball 74 from Lorcan Tucker was the basis of the Irish total of 274.
It had looked to be heading towards the 300 mark but a over from Ruari Crichard that claimed the wickets of both Delany and Tucker slammed on the brakes and it took a while, and Tom Anders with 25 to get things back on track.

The chase started disastrously for the hosts with McCord and Anders both claiming wickets in the opening overs and Kashif Ali then weighing in with a five over spell that returned him figures of 3-14.

When Cambridge captain Patrick Tice was out in the 20th over the hosts had been reduced to 76-6 but there was a twist in the tail.
Rory Sale (44) and Angus Dalgleish (78) rattled up a partnership of 95 as the Irish rang the bowling changes.

It was Will von Behr who broke up the party having Sale caught by Gareth Delany and when Ireland's 9th bowler Niall Hunt took 3-17 the game was over.

Lorcan Tucker must be the leading contender for MOM with 4 catches to go with his 74 runs.
Good form form the Trinity and Pembroke youngster who will be turning out for the Lightning against the Munster Reds in the T20 Interpro at Merrion tomorrow (Fri) night.
