The play-off matches that usually conclude a World Cricket League tournament can often be something of an anticlimax, and that was even more the case today as there was no result in any of the three games.
The most play was in the final, with Canada scoring 176-3 in 38 overs against Oman before rain curtailed their innings. Bhavindu Adhihetty top scored with 86 and shared in an opening stand of 102 with Nitish Kumar, who scored 50 before he was bowled by Nestor Dhamba.
Oman's innings was reduced to 24 overs, but they only managed 4.3 before rain put an end to the game. There was time for Zeeshan Maqsood to club 32 from 16 balls.
The USA batted for 25.2 overs against Singapore in the third place play-off before rain ended that contest, whilst the fifth place play-off between Uganda and Malaysia was abandoned without a ball bowled.
The next World Cricket League tournament will be the Division 5 event set for South Africa in September. The promoted teams from this event are likely in for a long wait for Division 2, as that will involve the bottom four teams from the World Cricket League Championship, which is set to end at the tail-end of 2017.
